Louth-born Entrepreneur and Philanthropist George G. Moore has Died in Virginia in the US

 

 

130528_George_G_Moore.jpgIrishDev.com has learned of the death of Louth-born IT entrepreneur and philanthropist George G. Moore who has died in Virginia, US at the young age of 60. A graduate of UCD in Dublin, George left Ireland in 1973 to do a MBA in Business Administration, Management and Operations at The George Washington University after winning a Ford Foundation scholarship.

 

 

At the start of his career, he went to work in Silicon Valley where he founded National Decision Systems, a consumer segmentation analytics company based in San Diego, California, and went on to become Executive Vice President with Equifax following its acquisition of NDS.

 

 

In 1993, he then founded TargusInfo, a company that provided real-time information services and analytics to firms of all sizes. In 2011, George sold TargusInfo to Neustar for $717 million cash.

 

 

Outside of TargusInfo, George was a board member of the Ireland America Economic Advisory Board and the New Ireland Fund, Northern Ireland Trade & Investment Council, The Flax Trust, and Trustee of the Northern Ireland Memorial Fund. He was also a board member of APIphany, an API management and delivery infrastructure company.

He also bought into the crystal and china business through Erne Heritage Holdings, which owns Belleek China and Galway Irish Crystal.

 

 

In 2012, he founded Ravensdale Capital and invested in early stage technology businesses, and had recently worked with the Irish Technology Leadership Group to mentor young entrepreneurs.

 

During his successful business career, George donated to many projects in Ireland, including the UCD science building. In 2007, he was awarded a CBE for his contribution to the Northern Ireland economy and for his international work on behalf of all of Ireland. In 2012, he was named by Enterprise Ireland as the agency's start-up ambassador to the US. Honors include "US Top 100 in Business: 1991-2012" Irish America Magazine, "Outstanding Alumnus 1991 Award" from University College Dublin, and several Ernst & Young entrepreneurial awards.

 

 

George is survived by his wife and three children.
